There is nothing glitzy or flashy about this antique ring, yet I am instantly drawn to her dark, gothic garnet gemstone.

Likely from the Victorian era, the piece centres around a large almandine garnet. The stone is closed back, completely encased by a gold setting, which means the red tone looks especially deep in hue. She is hauntingly beautiful.

In the absence of a hallmark, which is common in antique jewels, I have tested the metal as 9ct gold throughout. The band is simple in its design, the same width the entire way around the finger, with ornate shoulders that split into curls as they meet the gem.

Condition

Very good condition. There is a small amount of wear to the surface of the garnet, and marks on the gold which you would expect to see on an antique ring. Overall I am impressed with the condition, considering the age.
